Broken Hill offers an historical outback and mining experience of great interest to people from other parts of Australia and overseas. It is an iconic mining town, with the largest silver-lead-zinc deposit of its kind in the world. The lode is over 7km long and mines to 1 mile below the surface.

The history of trade unionism in Broken Hill is an important part of Australia’s history and a visit to the Trades Hall is a must. Similarly the Miners Memorial stands as a testimony to the trials and tribulations of the early men and women of Broken Hill. There are many fine civic buildings and just as interesting, other evidence of a mining past such as miner’s cottages, head frames and mullock heaps that fortunately have not fallen to the exigencies of time and progress.

The Flying Doctor base, White's Museum and the Geo Centre are also recommended. A visit to Silverton will provide photo opportunities like no other. Images of Australia at 145 Sulphide Street have an amazing series of local images and fineart photography by Boris Hlavica

Of great interest are the many galleries in Broken Hill and Silverton and just out of town the Living Desert and Sculpture Symposium. Many fine artists have found inspiration from this distinctive and colourful landscape and continue to do so.

There are many other attractions which are best viewed through the link on the Visit Broken Hill website: Visit Broken Hill
